Life Lesson #3
Forgive
Sometimes we hold on to things or events that have brought tremendous grief into our lives. We somehow feel that never letting go of these things keeps those who offended us imprisoned. The opposite is true. Not forgiving keeps us bound, in pain and most importantly, blocks blessings. You see, we cannot claim to be believers if we fail to believe in the power of forgiveness. God commands us to forgive one another. Some things may seem unforgivable, trusting God to take care of the person/situation should be satisfying enough for us! Letting go and forgiving does not mean you are freeing someone else, it means you are liberating yourself and allowing God to continue working in you and through you. This next statement is what has really helped me in this area: If our God can forgive us from hurting Him and His people, who are we not to forgive?
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
Things to remember today:
Forgiveness is letting go of all hopes for a better past.
Forgiveness creates a world where we do not withhold our love from anyone.
Forgiveness means seeing the light of God in everyone-regardless of their behavior.
You either totally forgive, or you do not forgive at all.
What we need to forgive in others may be something in ourselves that we have hidden from our awareness.
